Most people\n would envy your dilemma. With that in mind, we\u2019ve created a Job Offer \nChecklist to aid you in the decision process and ultimately, choosing \nthe job that is right for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Make a pros and cons list.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You know how it\u2019s done \u2014 two columns \nside-by-side. When you have everything down on paper, it is much easier \nto review all the elements (see below for a list of considerations).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Talk it over with a respected colleague\/mentor.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s valuable to\n discuss your options with someone who is in the same industry and can \nunderstand the potential of each opportunity. Also, this person has your\n best interests at heart and will be able to give you objective advice \nand recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Listen to your intuition.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes the best advice comes from deep\n in your gut. If you feel that an opportunity is \u201cjust not right\u201d, \nlisten to your feelings. Try to identify where your unease is coming \nfrom and question whether or not it can be changed. If it\u2019s the salary \nthat bothers you, try to re-negotiate. If it\u2019s the manager that bothers \nyou, ask yourself if you really want to work with that person every day?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Weighing your Offers<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several elements to consider when weighing one job \nopportunity over another. Below is a list of considerations that top our\n list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Office environment\/culture<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Will you have your own office or cubicle \nor are you sharing space with someone else? Is the space conducive to a \npositive working environment? Can you relax? Does it provide some \nprivacy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>People\/team chemistry<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Do the people in the company seem like \npeople you could hang out with? Do they seem interested in you and give \nyou a warm and fuzzy feeling? Do you respect their professional \nbackgrounds and accomplishments? Would you feel comfortable being part \nof their team?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Manager\u2019s background\/compatibility<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Does this person have a strong \nprofessional background, knowledgeable about the industry and company? \nIs this someone you would like to learn from?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Compensation &amp; Benefits<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Can you support yourself on the salary? \nIs there a recognition and bonus incentive program? Does the company \noffer stock options, a 401-K program, full health and dental benefits, a\n profit sharing plan?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Professional gains\/growth opportunities<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Is there room to grow and a set \npromotional track in place? Will you learn new skills and be exposed to \nnew and exciting challenges?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Location\/Travel<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Is the office easily accessible by \ncar\/public transportation or does the job require a long commute? Will \nthere be extensive travel and overnight trips?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Work\/life Balance<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>What are the typical work hours and will \nyou have to work weekends? Is the company supportive of family and \npersonal commitments?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Belief in Company\/Industry Reputation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you believe in the company\u2019s product \nand\/or business model? Is the company a solid industry player and will \nit be around in 2\/5\/10 years? Do you feel comfortable with the company\u2019s\n management team?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Company\u2019s Standing (pre\/post IPO)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If a start-up opportunity or stock \noptions are important to you, where does the company stand with funding?\n Who is investing and what stage is the company in?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lesser Considerations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve included a list of considerations we view as \u201cnon-critical\u201d. We\n are not saying the items below are unimportant. However, we don\u2019t \nbelieve they should make or break an offer. Again, ask yourself how \nimportant they are to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Start Date<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Something as easily negotiable as a start\n date shouldn\u2019t affect your decision to take a job. If you need to push \nback your start date, discuss this with the Human Resources department \nor the hiring manager before making any rash decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Job Title<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Because titles are so varied these days, \nit is becoming less of a consideration for most people. Weigh in the \nquality of projects and compensation package before crossing the \nopportunity off your list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Physical Office Space<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be used to an office with a door \nplaque, but in this day and age, it\u2019s not the best measure of success. \nCan you get used to the cubed environment and cathedral ceilings? Give \nyourself a week and you won\u2019t notice the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Comfort Level<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>So, the job may be a bit out of your \nnormal scope or maybe you\u2019ll be working alone rather than with a team, \nbut how will you ever grow without taking chances?
