From the time you arrive (a little bit early) until long after you leave (and your follow-up email or note has been received), your actions and words are being noted by the prospective employer. Here are some tips that will help separate you from the average interviewee:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. \n\t\tArrive at the interview no more than 10-15 minutes early. You do not \nwant to get there too early, as it is inconsiderate to the interviewer. \nBut \u2013 never be late!<\/li>
  2. \n\t\tThe first part of your interview is always the receptionist. Most \ncompanies will ask their receptionist if the candidate was polite, if \nthey were professional, or if they would fit into the culture of the \ncompany.<\/li>
  3. \n\t\tLook directly into the person\u2019s eyes, smile, and use their name. \nRemember they are not \u201cmind readers\u201d-the only way the interviewer can \njudge you is based on your external reactions.<\/li>
  4. \n\t\tAlways speak positively about your company and others with whom you \nwork. Never make derogatory remarks about previous or present \nemployers.  Even when asked directly what you like least about your \ncompany, always preface it with a positive.  Explain how you benefited \nfrom your experience there, give a short reason for your departure and \nmove on.<\/li>
  5. \n\t\tBe passionate (without being phony) about your current or previous job\n and how you can contribute to this firm. A good way not to be nervous \nis to focus on what you can do for them and how you can make an impact \non the firm if given the opportunity.<\/li>
  6. \n\t\tDo not concern yourself with salary, commission, bonuses or vacation on the initial interview.<\/li>
  7. \n\t\tNever answer questions with a simple \u201cyes\u201d or \u201cno\u201d.  Use specific examples of what you\u2019ve done or what you would do.<\/li>
  8. \n\t\tStress your achievements, records and accomplishments.<\/li>
  9. \n\t\tThe more you prepare, the better you perform.  By taking time to \nreflect on all you\u2019ve accomplished, you realize that there is a \ntremendous amount you can bring to the table.  Be eager to share this!<\/li>
  10. \n\t\tPractice, practice, practice! You should be prepared to answer any \nquestion that they ask of you. If you are finding yourself needing to \ncome up with answers on the spot, you haven\u2019t prepared enough! Speak \nclearly and slowly, and if necessary take notes throughout the \ninterview.<\/li>
  11. \n\t\tGet as many business cards as you can, so you can follow up after the \ninterview is completed. Always send at least an email after the \ninterview, if not a thank note in the mail. Thank them for their time \nand consideration, and confirm again your passion and interest in the \nposition.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
